Wavefunction, Inc. Chemistry at Your Fingertips
Wavefunction, Inc. was founded in 1991 with a simple goal: Providing researchers and educators in the mainstream chemistry community with molecular modeling software that was powerful enough to significantly contribute to chemistry research and instruction while remaining both affordable and easy to use, so that educators and students could also benefit from this emerging technology.
This vision was first realized in the form of Spartan for UNIX. In the early and mid 1990's, proprietary Unix hardware and their associated operating systems were the dominant platforms for scientific computing. However, in the last 10 years, a quiet (and in some cases, not so quiet) technological revolution has occurred. Researchers, instructors, and students, now have access to computer hardware (priced an order of magnitude lower than just 10 years ago) which is several orders of magnitude faster than the supercomputers of the early 1990's. With this explosion in computer technology, Spartan software has grown from a tool of limited accessibility to an industry leading molecular modeling application. Currently supporting Windows, Macintosh, Unix, and Linux, Spartan is now used in thousands of research and educational facilities, worldwide, and has more than 45,000 licenses in distribution.
